Northwest Coastal Native Art
While pursuing my B.A. in American Indian Studies, I had the honor of learning to properly design and create traditional two-dimensional art of the Northwest Coast Natives from Marvin Oliver – a very well known Native artist. This art style is very difficult to master due to the strict rules regarding the use of color and placement of the complex shapes that make up every piece of artwork in the style.
Both pieces displayed here are original works designed by myself under the guidance of Marvin Oliver. Each piece was originally drawn on paper with a pencil, colored using colored pencils, and then recreated and perfected in Adobe Illustrator.
If you look closely, you might even see the whale that was strategically designed in the white-space.
